Steal an Egg Nests Guide: Spawn Locations, Refresh Timers & Guard Patterns

Complete Steal an Egg nests guide. Nest locations by biome, egg spawn timers, refresh mechanics, and guardian patrol patterns.

Welcome to the Steal an Egg nests guide. Every biome in Steal an Egg contains multiple egg nests, each guarded by a creature and refreshed on a timer. Understanding nest spawn mechanics, refresh intervals, and guardian patrol patterns is the difference between one egg per minute and five eggs per minute.

This guide complements our Biomes Guide by zooming in on the nests within each biome. For biome speed requirements and egg rarity tables, see the Biomes Guide; for nest-specific tactics, read on.

How Nests Work

Each nest in Steal an Egg has four components:

  • Spawn point — a fixed location within the biome where eggs appear.
  • Guardian — a hostile creature that patrols the nest and chases players who grab eggs.
  • Egg pool — the rarity distribution of eggs that can spawn at this nest.
  • Refresh timer — the cooldown after an egg is stolen before a new egg spawns at the same nest.

When you grab an egg, the guardian immediately aggros and chases. Once you cross the safe-zone boundary, the guardian returns to the nest and the refresh timer begins. After the timer completes, a new egg spawns, drawn from the nest's rarity pool.

Nest Mechanics by Biome

Each biome's nests follow the same core mechanics but scale in difficulty. Below is a biome-by-biome breakdown of nest behavior.

Forest Nests

  • Guardian: Chicken (slow patrol, small detection radius)
  • Egg Pool: Common, Uncommon (small Rare chance)
  • Refresh: Fast
  • Nest Count: Multiple nests scattered across the Forest zone
  • Tactics: Trivial escapes. Grab one egg per trip during your first runs. Use Forest nests to complete Pet Index milestones for starter pets.

Lake Nests

  • Guardian: Swan (moderate patrol speed, medium detection radius)
  • Egg Pool: Uncommon, Rare (small Epic chance)
  • Refresh: Moderate
  • Nest Count: Fewer nests than Forest, more spread out
  • Tactics: Wait for the Swan to face away before approaching. Drop traps if your speed is close to the 900 minimum.

Desert Nests

  • Guardian: Scorpion (wide detection radius, terrain-aware patrol)
  • Egg Pool: Rare, Epic (small Legendary chance)
  • Refresh: Moderate
  • Nest Count: Spread across rocky terrain
  • Tactics: Use terrain cover to break line of sight during approach. Speed trails recommended to absorb the Scorpion's wider aggro range.

Jungle Nests

  • Guardian: Tiger (fast pursuit, aggressive patrol pattern)
  • Egg Pool: Epic, Legendary
  • Refresh: Slow
  • Nest Count: Dense cluster in the Jungle interior
  • Tactics: Drop traps early in the escape phase. The Tiger closes gaps fast — don't attempt multi-egg runs until your speed exceeds 80K.

Snow Nests

  • Guardian: Yeti (high pursuit speed, long chase distance)
  • Egg Pool: Legendary
  • Refresh: Slow
  • Nest Count: Spread across the frozen terrain
  • Tactics: Train well beyond 170K before attempting. The Yeti's long chase distance means more time for the guardian to close gaps.

Volcano Nests

  • Guardian: Hellhound (aggressive, fast, persistent)
  • Egg Pool: Legendary, Mythic
  • Refresh: Slow
  • Nest Count: Clustered around volcanic vents
  • Tactics: Traps are mandatory. Single-egg runs recommended until your speed exceeds 1.2M. Stack luck boosts during Volcano egg hatching — this is the first biome where Mythic pets drop.

Abyss Ocean Nests

  • Guardian: Moby (long chase distance, high pursuit speed)
  • Egg Pool: Mythic
  • Refresh: Very slow
  • Nest Count: Deep-sea nest locations
  • Tactics: Single-egg runs only. The long escape distance gives the Moby more time to close gaps. Equip speed-bonus pets.

Prehistoric Nests

  • Guardian: T-Rex (huge detection radius, very high pursuit speed)
  • Egg Pool: Mythic, Divine
  • Refresh: Very slow
  • Nest Count: Spread across the Prehistoric landscape
  • Tactics: Approach with extreme caution. The T-Rex's detection radius is the largest of any non-Cosmic guardian. Use traps liberally and equip every speed bonus you have.

Cosmic Nests

  • Guardian: Dragon (fastest and most aggressive in the game)
  • Egg Pool: Divine, Secret
  • Refresh: Very slow
  • Nest Count: Limited nest points in the Cosmic zone
  • Tactics: Max every upgrade. Single-egg runs only. Stack every luck boost during Cosmic egg hatching — Secret pets drop only here.

Egg Refresh Mechanics

After an egg is stolen from a nest, the nest enters a refresh cooldown. Once the cooldown completes, a new egg spawns, drawn from the nest's rarity pool. Key refresh mechanics:

  • Refresh is per-nest — stealing from one nest doesn't refresh other nests in the same biome.
  • Rarity rerolls on refresh — each new egg is an independent roll from the nest's rarity pool. A nest that spawned a Common egg last time can spawn a Rare egg next time.
  • Global rare egg events — every few minutes, a server-wide notification announces a rare egg spawn ("Giant Egg Spawned!", "Secret Egg Available!"). These events spawn high-value eggs at specific nests and are first-come, first-served.

Pro Tip: Rush global rare egg event locations the moment the notification appears. These eggs have significantly higher rarity rolls than standard nest spawns and are the best source of Mythic, Divine, and Secret pets.

Guardian Patrol Patterns

Each guardian follows a patrol pattern around its nest. Understanding these patterns helps you time your approach:

  • Tight patrol (Chicken, Swan) — guardian stays close to the nest. Approach from the opposite side of the patrol loop.
  • Wide patrol (Scorpion, T-Rex) — guardian covers a large area around the nest. Use terrain cover and wait for the guardian to patrol away from your approach line.
  • Aggressive pursuit (Tiger, Hellhound, Dragon) — guardian chases fast and persistently. Traps and speed trails are mandatory.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do eggs respawn?

Egg refresh timers vary by biome. Forest nests refresh fastest; Cosmic nests refresh slowest. The exact timers are not officially published, but deeper biomes have noticeably longer cooldowns to balance their higher rarity pools.

Do all nests in a biome have the same egg pool?

Generally yes — nests within the same biome draw from the same rarity pool. However, global rare egg events can spawn higher-rarity eggs at specific nests temporarily.

Can I steal from a nest while another player is being chased by its guardian?

The guardian aggros to the most recent player who grabs an egg. If another player grabs an egg while you're being chased, the guardian may switch targets — but this is unreliable and risky.

Where can I find the full biome speed requirements?

See our Biomes Guide for the complete table of all 9 biomes, their minimum speed requirements, guardians, and egg rarity pools.

How do I improve my egg steal success rate?

Train your speed beyond the biome minimum, equip speed trails, use traps during escapes, and equip speed-bonus pets. See our How to Steal Eggs Guide for the full tactics breakdown.
